My Dance Schedule

So, I've realized that looking through my blog it might be super confusing to how much and what dance classes I'm taking. So here's my schedule:

Monday- Ballet for 90 minutes
Tuesday- Ballet/pointe for 2 hours
Wednesday-Sleep!
Thursday- 20-30 minutes of Yoga or pilates, and stretching
Friday- Attempt to have a social life
Saturday and Sunday- 1 hour stretching and yoga, some pointe exercises

So, as you can see, I'm currently only taking 2 dance classes a week. TWO. It's driving me crazy. I technically can be taking 4 ballet classes and 1 modern class and my level, but the thing about dance is it can be so expensive!

Hopefully, my summer is a little different. This summer I'm doing a week long 2.5 hour daily summer intensive at my studio for beginner pointe, and also taking some open classes. At my old studio, I also want to try some lyrical classes, assuming I can find a stinking job. Anyway, there you have it!

  1. I know how it is :/ I used to take 3-4 classes a week, but I switched studios so my mom can only afford 1 a week now. I'm saving up to send myself to a summer intensive for 2 weeks this summer. Can't wait for summer! ^_^

    1. Isn't it the worst? I auditioned for my studio's company and made it, but in order to be in the company you need to take 4 ballet and 1 modern class a week, and there's a $1000, 3 week, 8 hours daily SI, that I just couldn't afford. One of the worst days of my life was getting the great news that I was accepted, and excitedly telling my dad while he looked at the SI information with a sad face.

    2. Awww that sounds horrible :( maybe you could talk to your studio and see if you can work out an arrangement? I know my last studio let some dancers help out around the studio for free classes.

    3. I'll see if that is a possibility!

  2. I know how you feel! I wish I could take more classes but with school, taking more than 2 classes a week would just be too much. This summer I'm hoping I can take 3-4 though. I'm not on pointe yet and I feel so rushed to get there! I'll be 16 in June and been back to ballet (took from age 4-10 when I was younger) for a year. That means i've only got 2 years to get on pointe before I leave for college ! It seems like things are going soooo slow though! Sometimes I feel like im not making any progress and I'll never acheive my dream of going on pointe. Nobody else seems to understand the feeling though!

    1. I used to feel like this too! But then I realized, who says you can't do ballet during and after college?
Some colleges offer ballet as a gym class, and a lot of ballet studios offer adult intermediate classes for people like us who aren't adult beginners or professionals.

We still have plenty of time to start pointe and learn variations and just enjoy dancing. My boyfriend's mom started Tap dancing at age 21, and at 50 she still dances every week.

I know that feeling of wanting to rush and learn more before college, but college isn't the deadline for us, it's the beginning!

    1. Hi! I'm just doing ballet for the fun of it, I don't think I'd ever be able to physically or emotionally handle ballet as a career!

That's awesome, I'm glad everything is going smoothly!

  5. For your ballet/pointe class, do you do a lot of pointe, or is it mostly ballet and a little pointe?

    1. We do a normal 90 minute ballet class, and then 30 minutes of pointe. However, starting soon we'll be doing barre in pointe shoes in addition to our 30 minutes, and then 45 minutes of center off pointe.

  6. Hi, I was just wondering... How late do your classes go? All of the classes I find go to like 9:30 PM on Mondays! I don't know how I'd finish my homework AND get enough sleep!

    1. Hi! I'm Joy. I know you weren't asking me but I wanted to see if I could help. My ballet classes run kinda late too. On Tuesday it starts at 8 and ends at 9 I usually don't get home till around 9:45. On Wednesday I go at 6:00 & leave at 7:30 home by 8:10 or so... So my advice is to start your homework as soon as you get home or maybe after a short rest/afterschool snack. On Tues. I usually do that and have time to take a nap before I eat dinner and get ready for class. I would just say get as much done before dance so that when you get home you can go straight to shower/bed. It can be a bit tiring at first running on that type of schedule if your not used to it but its definantly doable! Hope I helped some!

    2. Hi! Maybe you could bring your homework with you to dance and do it while you are waiting to go into your class so you have less to do.

    3. Hey! Looks like you have some good answers already! My tuesday class does run pretty late, it's 6:30-8:30, and about 25 minutes away from my house, so I often don't get to eat or sleep until 10 or later.

I do as much homework as I can before dance or days in advance (so if it's due on Wednesday and we get it Monday, I do it Monday night). Also, I use my study halls or free time in class to do my homework.

Some people can do their homework on the way or at dance, but unless you arrive really early or unless it's a super long drive I don't really get much done. Around Nutcracker when we would have breaks between rehearsals, the dressing room practically became a study room!
