New to Ballet?

Hey guys! For anyone out there who hasn't taken their first ballet class, but wants to, now is the perfect time to start looking! Summer classes usually end in mid-August and then the dance season starts, so look around for local studios!

As for me, next week (I hope) I'll either be taking lyrical or ballet, and probably am going to continue until the end of August.

How are all of your summer sessions going?!

  1. Hey! I'm 16 years old and will be taking my first season of dance this year. I'm really excited but really nervous because I don't want to be the only one who doesn't know the moves/ anyone in the class! I feel like I will be too old also! They said they will put me in a level 3 class because they teach from the beginning for people who need to catch up and learn the moves but there will also be people who already know how to dance in there. Do you have any tips for me? And will I be too old?

    1. Hello! I started ballet in a level 3 class at the conservatory I dance at. I started in that level because it was the first level that focused seriously on technique and proper placement. Levels 1 and 2 focused on rhythm and easy terminology. You won't be too old, there is no such thing! You may be older than your classmates, but that's not a problem. You're all there for one reason: to dance! My only tips would be to not stress out, and have fun! If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask! It's okay to say, "Can you please go over that again?" or "Could you demonstrate a little slower?" It shows that you're serious about learning ballet!

  2. Hi, I'm going to be 16 in January and talking me first ballet class (i did some in pre-school/7th but quit because of bad teachers) in the fall. I really have a good feeling about it!

I know this is far in advance, but my family might move to Europe for a year (parents job) and if I want to continue dancing I don't know if there will be classes at the international school I'll be going to or if there is a class in english I can take at a local studio.

    What should I do?

    1. I'm sure there will be dance studios in Europe that you can take classes at! One of the cool things about ballet is that it is pretty much universal. A class in America will be similar to a class in England, which will be similar to a class in Argentina, and so on!
