Sylvie Guillem

Any professional dancer could tell you who Sylvie Guillem is, and most students probably could too. She's a beautiful dancer, handpicked for principle at the young age of 19. She dances flawlessly, and after seeing a great mini documentary on her, I found out she is also involved with an extreme environmental group that I kinda love (Sea Shepard--Whale Wars anyone? No? Didn't think so...).

So here's that documentary I mentioned, I really recommend it!
Part 1
Part 2

    1. Woah, I've never met anyone else who liked that show! I have no idea if it's still on, I used to watch it late at night as my guilty pleasure show.

  2. Hi,
I'm 13 and when I was 3-10 (could be 9) I danced at a studio that was recreational, but pretty serious. I was in company class as well, even though I didn't take the 'intensive classes (twice a week)" which was a requirement, but the studio owner gave me special permission. I'm really trying to get back in, and though I have a bad back injury right now, I thin (fingers crossed!!!) that I can get back in once its healed!! Ballet was MY LIFE (I'm sure you know what I mean), but it got too expensive. I really want to be able to go on pointe, but I can only afford classes once a week, because I couldn't possibly keep up with intensive girls my age ($1000+ for 2x a week) and each class is $1000+( for the year, not for each individual class!)

WHat I want to know is, do you think I can get on pointe with only one class a week??

    1. Hmm, I really wouldn't recommend it. I know that's kind of a disappointing answer. It's recommended to take at least 3 classes a week for pointe. If you don't take enough classes, your ankles and technique don't get strong enough, so when you try to dance en pointe it won't look very pretty anyway.

Could you try a different studio? $1000 a year is pretty pricey, you might be able to find a cheaper studio.

No matter what, talk to your teacher. He or she will know best how to help you out.
