Hey everyone! Like the title says, Nutcracker season is about to start! I'm so exited this year, I can't wait. The official castlist went up on Saturday, my Facebook feed was filled with girls from the company posting about their parts! It was very bittersweet for me, because I couldn't join the company, I was only able to dance one part, Soldier Doll. The girls in the Jr. and Senior company are the only ones who can get any major roles, so unless you shell out $1,000 for summer intensives, you can't be anything but a soldier. I was am "Extra Soldier" last year, mostly I just marched around and then stood on stage. This year, due to a lack of soldiers, I'll most likely be a "Dancing Soldier" which I suppose is an improvement from last year! Hopefully I'll be able to join the company next year and dance something a little bigger, like Snow, Flowers, or one of the country dances.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Nutcracker! Have any of you started rehearsing? Tell me what parts you got in the comments!
Hey its Miya here and I've been in Ballet and Lyrical class for 4 weeks now and the nutcracker audition past so I didn't try out. BUT my teacher asked me and my friend to participate!!! were candy canes!! I know it's not the best part but at least im in it!

Awesome! For some reason our studio doesn't do candy canes, but I know a lot of places do. What scene are you in? I think we might do Mother Ginger instead, I'm not quite sure where candy canes dance.
Deletemy studio just started doing candy canes this year. I got placed as a snow crystal, the little snowflakes not on pointe, a chinese dancer, and somebody dropped out of clara's friends part so i get to do that, too.
DeleteWow, awesome! I think Snow is one of my favorites, and I love Chinese too! Clara's friend sounds like fun as well.
DeleteI saw a few versions of the candy canes on youtube, I like the dance. I wish my studio did it.
Ugh, I'm so jealous! My Nutcracker cast list doesn't go up until at least october 15.. probably a bit later, though. Our teacher always posts it later then she says she will. I'm hoping for a good part, last year I was only the maid, which sucks, 'cause it isn't a dancing role. Unfortunately, I'm too tall for most of the kids roles, but I'm not quite good enough to perform en pointe. (I've been dancing en pointe for a little over 2 years, but my studio is REALLY good, so most girls don't dance en pointe until at least 3 or 4 years of pointe.)
ReplyDeleteI'll probably be a tin soldier, and maybe an angel. I did angel two years ago, and it's fun enough. Pretty simple dance, but not too bad. And tin soldier is a fun role, I understudied it last year. I would love to be a gingerette, but I think I'm too tall. I'm hoping for 2nd corps snow next year, though! I'd also love to be a party teen or or side candy cane, or side tea. But those involve fouettes, which I can't do. :P
Huh, at my studio the tradition is to make the seniors maids. I have the same problem about being too tall for kid roles, not good enough for bigger roles! It's annoying, like tin soldier is the only part I can really do.
DeleteI wish we had party teens! We just have party girls and boys, they are usually no older then 13. I would love to be in the party scene.
I'm so excited for Nutcracker! I received the role of the chinese dragon. I'm kind of nervous because it's my first time performing on pointe and it's a solo. I've only been dancing en pointe for about 2 years. I'm also in the waltz of the flowers, I hope I get to also dance en pointe for that too. Probably not though because I'm only in the Junior Company.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's exciting! I'm sure you'll be great! Those are two awesome parts, have fun with them!
